The North America Office of Duesseldorf Tourism and Duesseldorf Airport announce:

15th Annual Night of Museums in Düsseldorf – April 18, 2015

An annual spring art event has been lifting one of Europe’s art capitals out of winter darkness with a spectacular night-time congregation of creativity and talent since 2000.  The 15th Night of Museums on April 18, 2015, continues the tradition with almost 40 participating museums and venues all over the city of Düsseldorf staying open all night for art exhibits and events to switch on the lights in the hearts of about 25,000 art lovers from all over the world.

Düsseldorf, Germany – Düsseldorf’s annual Night of Museums (2015 date: April 18) is a revelation for the senses like the first warm spring day after a  deep dark winter:  Art lovers – about 25, 000 every year – go into the night to find places all over the city bursting with light and creativity. Almost 40 museums and event venues all over the city stay open all night for an amazing program of world-class art events and exhibits. The city’s premiere museums and galleries are included, as well as many unusual and off-site art-spaces, and they feature art, music, poetry, and more. From 7:00 PM to 2:00 AM, all events are accessible through one ticket, with free transportation around the city.

Highlights:

The exhibit “Real Humans” at Kunsthalle Düsseldorf explores the nature of human identity with multimedia works by three contemporary artists from the US: Ian Cheng, Wu Tsang, and Jordan Wolfson.  K20 Museum features an exhibit of famous German artist Günther Uecker; and Museum Kunstpalast shows photographs by Wim Wenders – and a whole new side of the renowned movie director’s creative talent.

Music is another major aspect of the night, and visitors will find the sounds of many genres:  classical music at Heinrich-Heine Institute; gospel by the Black Soul Tenors (the singers from the smash musical “Startlight Express”); psychedelic rock by Love Machine at KIT (“Kunst im Tunnel” – Art in the Tunnel); and hip-hop and various DJs, including DJ Rafik.

For those who not only want to see art, but also participate in it, several interactive events make it possible. The Film Museum offers workshops for screenplay writing; the Theater Museum invites attendees to go  on stage for a Hamlet performance; and a 3D-scanner at the Hetjens Museum creates portraits of visitors.

All night, visitors will move between the many venues all over the city, but one venue is mobile — and a special attraction of the night:  A historic tram from the 1950s will operate as a museum on wheels.

Tickets for the night are € 14.00, and include free transportation between venues.   For holders of Düsseldorf’s Art:card – a card that provides free access to Düsseldorf’s museums for an entire year – the attendance at Night of Museums is free.
