BYE BYE BIRDIE IS COMING TO MANATEE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER
MARCH 17TH – APRIL 3RD, 2016.

Rock n’ Roll with Bye Bye Birdie coming to the Manatee Performing Arts Center

The Manatee Performing Arts Center presents the Manatee Players’ production of Bye Bye Birdie March 17th-April 3rd in Stone Hall. This classic hit production is directed by Cory Boyas and musically directed by G. Frank Meekins.

The year is 1958, and the much-adored rock-and-roll idol — Conrad Birdie (with an Elvis flair) — has been drafted into the US army. His songwriter and agent, Albert, and Albert’s secretary, Rosie, hatch a plan for a farewell performance to take place on the Ed Sullivan show, which they hope will help sell Birdie’s new song “One Last Kiss.” To cap off the performance, Birdie will give ‘one-last-kiss’ to Kim MacAfee, an avid member of the Conrad Birdie fan club from Sweet Apple, Ohio.

Audiences will love this fun, upbeat production inspired by rock and roll icon, Elvis Presley, and his draft notice in 1957. Bye Bye Birdie premiered on Broadway in 1960 with a book by Michael Stewart, lyrics by Lee Adams, and music by Charles Strouse. The production won four Tony Awards including Best Musical and inspired the hit 1963 film of the same name, starring Dick Van Dyke and Ann-Margret.

The talented cast features: Miranda Wolf as Kim MacAfee, Chris McCoy as Conrad Birdie, A.J. Cali as Hugo, Maverick Wolf as Randolph MacAfee, Joseph Eckstein as Mr. Harry MacAfee, Ellen Kleinschmidt as Mrs. Doris MacAfee, Lindsay Yarbrough as Rose Alvarez, Michael DeMocko as Albert Peterson, Lily Mancini as Ursula Merkle, Chis Wolf as the Mayor, Barb Wolf as the Mayor’s Wife, Brenna Griffith as Gloria Rasputin, Jack Kaiser as Harvey Johnson, Cheyenne Fauvel as Sad Girl, Betty Robinson as Mrs. Peterson.
