GRAMMY-NOMINATED BLUEGRASS ROCKERS
SET TO RELEASE “UNDERCOVER” EP

PINK FLOYD, TOM PETTY, JOHNNY CASH
BOB DYLAN AND THE HIGHWAYMEN

ROLLING STONE DEBUTS COVER OF “AMERICAN GIRL”

FALL TOUR KICKS OFF OCTOBER 29
WITH TWO NIGHTS AT BROOKLYN BOWL
Grammy-nominated bluegrass stalwarts THE INFAMOUS STRINGDUSTERS are excited to announce the release of Undercover, an EP featuring five fan-favorite cover songs the group has performed on the road since they formed in 2006. A recent recording session in their Colorado home base yielded a strong collection of tracks including Pink Floyd’s “Fearless,” Tom Petty’s “American Girl,” Johnny Cash’s “Big River,” Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice” and “Highwayman” from the Highwaymen (Cash, Jennings, Nelson, Kristofferson). The EP will be in stores October 9. Rolling Stone.com has exclusively premiered “American Girl,” which you can check out here.
The band–Andy Hall (dobro), Andy Falco (guitar), Chris Pandolfi (banjo), Jeremy Garrett (fiddle), and Travis Book (upright bass)–will hit the road to support the EP October 29 with a quick 15-date tour, highlighted by two shows in NYC at Brooklyn Bowl.
The Infamous Stringdusters have released four highly-acclaimed studio albums since forming in Colorado, and wanted to mix things up a little for this new release. “We had a great summer touring and wanted to get right into the studio,” says Hall. “But we didn’t want to get into a cycle of tour-write-record-tour, so we sat down to capture some of the energy of songs that get the biggest reaction live.” The songs on Undercover were all recorded live in the studio, with all five Stringdusters jamming in the same room. “It was organic,” says Falco, who mixed the album. “We didn’t have an agenda. If we didn’t nail it after three takes, we moved on to another song. I think you can hear and feel the relaxed atmosphere in the music.”
Equally well-rehearsed and improvisational, the Stringdusters have drawn acclaim and awards for their unique style, with a common denominator of love for bluegrass and country. But their music is more than that, incorporating each of the five members’ eclectic influences. The band has won three International Bluegrass Music Association Awards and received a “Best Country Instrumental” Grammy nomination in 2011. In a 2012 review, the New York Times’ Jon Pareles said the Stringdusters “have ignored purism, applied their virtuosity to untraditional tunes and structures and found a wider audience along the jam-band circuit… What sounds casual and good-timey – handoffs from player to player, solos that turn into intertwined duets – is intricately plotted and arranged, attentive to the textures of each voice and string. The Infamous Stringdusters don’t leave bluegrass behind; they’re stretching it from within.”
