Nashville, TN – October 9, 2015 – The Gills have teamed up with Yahoo Music to exclusively premiere their new video for “Rubberband” today! “Rubberband” was directed by Steve Voss and features projections by Mike Kluge. This is the first single to release off of The Gills’ self-titled album, which is set to drop early 2016. With a sound reminiscent of early Arctic Monkeys and Queens of The Stone Age, The Gills excel with straightforward and bombastic pop-rock sensibilities. Watch the official music video for “Rubberband” on Yahoo Music, here:
The Gills are Jesse Wheeler (Guitar, Vocals), Andy Prince (Bass), Matt Prince (Drums), and Justin Locke (Guitar, Keys). Originally from Pensacola, Florida, the band made their way to Nashville, TN, to push themselves out of their hometown comfort zone. Years later, they’ve put the finishing touches on the most cathartic songs of the band’s career yet.
Frontman Wheeler began writing songs as a teenager, looking for an outlet to help him put a positive spin on his childhood battle with Leukemia. At first, he focused on humorous tunes designed to make his friends (and Wheeler himself) laugh. Later, as his health and songwriting chops strengthened, the music became bolder and more bombastic. The Prince brothers climbed aboard after Wheeler recovered and shortly after met Locke, who became the group’s fourth member.
After playing consistently around Nashville, The Gills began to make a name for themselves. Notable bands started to take notice – including Manchester Orchestra, who asked bassist Andy Prince to join the band in addition to playing with The Gills.
The band co-produced their latest LP with Kyle Dreaden who took songs like “Aria,” “Lemonade” and “Gimme Gimme” to a new invigorating space, where gritty rock and pop sensibilities live harmoniously side-by-side. In concert, The Gills adopt the same in-your-face stance that fills their self-titled album. The Gills are making themselves comfortable occupying the middle ground between college radio and the Top 40 format, while remaining true to their creative explorations.
