(Los Angeles, CA – April 12, 2016)  The LA based, southern-Louisiana native, singer-songwriter ROD MELANCON  is looking forward to bringing his music to life in the form of a Monday in May residency at the famed Silverlake Lounge in Los Angeles. In the same way Johnny Cash captured the Arkansas of his childhood and Springsteen brought Asbury Park alive for millions, MELANCON has infused this great American art form with his own cajun style and the results have re-invigorated the genre.  His third release, the EP LA 14 (in reference to the Louisiana State Highway 14), teams MELANCON again with pioneering producer Brian Whelan (former multi-instrumentalist for Dwight Yoakam) and will be released via the innovative indie label, Blue Élan Records, on April 22, 2016.

Deep in the swamp lands of South Louisiana, found in the small towns off State Highway 14, along the Parish lines and the borders that dwell with the native sons of this often unseen heartland, there are stories waiting to be told. There are ghosts to conjure up in the night fires and bayou jamborees.  It takes a special artist to summon up the soul of the land through song and story. Welcome to the world of LA 14. It is a world that is uniquely Rod Melancon. His collection of songs & stories bring us to the essence of haunted and hunted swampy, South Louisiana nights.

Each of these five songs tells their own story, from the inner hell of addiction to the loyalty of a family friend, to an inside view of tragedy, to the redemption found in a life-long love. These are experiences personal and universal to one of Americana’s finest rising artists, destined to create his own legend and legacy.

On April 12th the premiere destination for American Roots music, The Alternate Root will  exclusively present  PERRY the first video from LA 14. The clip was created by MELANCON and acclaimed director Christopher Good. Of the clip MELANCON says, “Perry is a story about a cousin I never met. His fighting ways and run ins with the law cost him his life a year before I was born. My dad would tell me stories about him and my mom was worried I’d turn out like him.  Chris (the director) and I both have a strong love for David Lynch. The video becomes more of a twilight zone episode and less of a statement about the real life Perry.”

LA 14 is just a taste of whats to come, the full length project, due later this year, represents a new era of soul, depth and innovation for MELANCON. Come out on a moody Monday in May and hear it for yourself.
