PHILADELPHIA, PA—December 11, 2014—Combining modes of artistic expression, the Curtis Institute of Music and the Philadelphia Museum of Art present Music in the Galleries, a series of concerts to delight the ear and fascinate the eye. Talented young musicians from Curtis, one of the world’s finest conservatories, perform compelling chamber programs paired with captivating visual art on select Saturdays between December and April at 1:30, 2:15, and 3 p.m.

Listen to seasonally inspired music for wind quintet while sitting in the museum’s charming medieval cloister modeled after the Abbey of Saint-Genis-des-Fontaines, or listen to the Aizuri Quartet, Curtis’s resident string quartet, while exploring the art of Thomas Eakins, Auguste Rodin, and Eduard Charlemont, among others. Free with museum admission, each Music in the Galleries performance includes pre-concert talk by a museum educator linking the art and music.

SEASON DETAILS

– With “Winter Winds” on December 13, works by Palestrina, Ligeti, and Katerina Kramarchuk (’12) are performed in the peaceful medieval cloister.

– “Expression/Introspection” on February 21 features the Aizuri Quartet as they perform works by Beethoven and Janáček, complementing captivating art work such as Rodin’s sculpture, “Thought” in Gallery 155.
