TEXAS RANGERS TRADE CATCHER CHRIS GIMENEZ TO CLEVELAND

FOR CASH CONSIDERATIONS

Gimenez was designated for assignment on Tuesday

Toronto, Ontario–The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has traded catcher Chris Gimenez to the Cleveland Indians for cash considerations.

Gimenez was activated from the 15-day disabled list and designated for assignment on Tuesday to make room for catcher Bobby Wilson, who was acquired from Detroit, on the 40-man roster.

Gimenez has been on the DL all season after sustaining an infection in his lower left leg during the last week of spring training. He was on rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco from April 25-May 2 and batted .240 (6-25) with one homer and 4 RBI in 7 games.

Gimenez batted .255 with 5 homers and 14 RBI in 36 games for Texas in 2015. This will mark his second stint with the Indians. He was traded by Texas to Cleveland for future considerations on August 23, 2014 and was 0-for-9 in 8 games the rest of the year.

With today’s moves, the Rangers’ major league roster remains at 40 players.
