TEXAS RANGERS RECALL LHP ROBBIE ROSS, JR. FROM ROUND ROCK
AND ACTIVATE LHP DEREK HOLLAND FROM 60-DAY DISABLED LIST

AND DESIGNATE 1B-OF MIKE CARP FPOR ASSIGNMENT
Houston, TX – The Texas Rangers today announced the following roster moves:
–Recalled LHP Robbie Ross, Jr. from Triple-A Round Rock of the Pacific Coast League. Ross will start Saturday night’s game versus the Astros in Houston in place of RHP Miles Mikolas, who has been scratched with right shoulder fatigue.
–Recalled LHP Derek Holland from his rehab assignment and activated him from the 60-day disabled list. Holland will make his first major league start of the season on Tuesday in Kansas City.
–Optioned RHP Nick Tepesch to Round Rock. Tepesch, who can be recalled after the conclusion of Round Rock’s season on Monday, is scheduled to start for Texas on Wednesday in Kansas City.
–Designated 1B-OF Mike Carp for assignment.
Ross opened the season in the Texas rotation and went 2-4 with a 5.61 ERA (38 ER/61.0 IP) in 18 games/9 starts for Texas before he was optioned to Round Rock on June 17. He made 9 starts to begin the season, going 1-4 with a 4.78 ERA (26 ER/49.0 IP) before he was moved to the bullpen in mid-May. He was recalled by Texas to make a spot start on August 14 vs. Tampa Bay, allowing 6 runs in 4.1 innings in a 6-3 loss. Overall, he is 2-5, 6.06 in 19 games/10 starts with the Rangers. The lefthander is 5-4, 4.33 in 12 games/9 starts overall with Round Rock. His last 2 outings have come in relief, the last a 2.1 inning scoreless appearance on Thursday vs. Nashville.
Holland has missed the entire season after undergoing microfracture surgery to repair torn cartilage behind his left knee on January 10. He made 6 starts on rehab assignment, going 2-1, 4.43 (10 ER/20.1 IP) between Round Rock (4 starts) and Double-A Frisco (2 starts).
Tepesch is 4-8, 4.44 in 18 games/17 starts with the Rangers this season. Carp is hitting .175 with 13 RBI in 59 games between Boston and Texas with a .125 average and 4 RBI in 17 games with the Rangers since being received on a waiver claim from the Red Sox on August 3. The Rangers have 10 days to trade, release, or outright Carp to the minor leagues.
With today’s moves, the Rangers’ major league roster remains at 40 players.
