SURF DOG RICOCHET’S HEALING POWER TO BE FEATURED ON NAT GEO WILD’S “BARKFEST” THIS FRIDAY SHOWCASING VETERAN WITH PTSD & BOY WITH AUTISM

SAN DIEGO, CA, May 13, 2015… Surf Dog Ricochet, the SURFice Dog® will appear alongside retired Staff Sergeant Randy Dexter and 8 year old West Butner on Nat Geo Wild’s “BarkFest” this weekend, starting on Friday, May 15th at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Ricochet is usually seen providing a lifeline in the water as she surfs with people with disabilities. But, it’s her powerful gift of intuition and healing that Nat Geo Wild will be showcasing.

First on, “World’s Greatest Dogs” at 8 p.m Friday, a report of Ricochet’s innate abilities that have tremendous life-altering effects on special needs children like 8 year old West Butner who has autism will be presented. The segment will show how West overcame his fears and gained confidence while working with Ricochet. Then on, “Is Your Dog a Genius” at 10 p.m. Friday, the story of Ricochet saving the life of Staff Sergeant Randall Dexter who suffers from combat-related post-traumatic stress will be highlighted. Ricochet’s extraordinary ability to intuitively and empathically identify and alert to the emotional and physical changes of the individuals she interacts with will be illustrated by Dr. Brian Hare, Director of Duke University’s Canine Cognition Center. This ability allows for remarkable healing interventions. Click this link for the teaser http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/wild/barkfest/videos/top-5-service-dogs/

Many kids with autism and military with PTSD have triggers that result in anxiety. Because Ricochet is able to alert to their stress, she is able to prevent panic attacks, melt downs and other anxiety provoking behavior. This allows for the opportunity to intervene and assess the individual and environment before their anxiety escalates.

Ricochet is like a mirror to the people with whom she interacts, communicating their physical or emotional distress. She is able to reflect back their feelings with a sense of confidence. As such, she can help people go inward to find a place of peace while, at the same time, moving outward through their greatest fears.

Although surfing has been at the forefront of Ricochet’s work, it’s not the act of surfing that makes her interactions so life changing. It’s her powerful gift of intuition and healing that allows her to make such deep heart-to-heart connections. The more she connects with people, the stronger her gift becomes.

“It is my hope that the more we share Ricochet’s powerful healing abilities, the more light we can shed on the influence dogs have on the physical and emotional well-being of humans”, said Judy Fridono, Ricochet’s guardian. “I believe all dogs are intuitive. Unfortunately, we often mis-interpret their subtle, or not so subtle cues as bad behavior. In doing so, we miss the magic every dog is capable of. Dogs are always communicating with us… we just have to listen.”
