SunCoast Blood Bank Holds Inaugural Boots vs Badges in Manatee County

Competition Brought in More Than Eighty Blood Donors

Bradenton, FL– Manatee County first responders participated in a friendly competition on Saturday, December 13 to see which agency could raise the most number of blood donors for SunCoast Blood Bank (SCBB). Suncoast Behavioral Health Center hosted the competition. The highlights of the day included a fly in from Bayflite 2 Emergency Helicopter Service, K-9 demonstrations from the Palmetto Police Department, and tours of fire engines and a SWAT vehicle.

This year firefighters took home the trophy with 46 units donated in their honor; law enforcement raised 35 units of blood.  “The real winners are the patients whose lives depend on the 81 units of blood collected at this drive,” said Jason Carney, Chief Operating Officer and Transfusion Safety Officer of SCBB.  SCBB is the sole provider of blood products for Manatee Healthcare System and Bayflite 2. Blood collected from Boots vs. Badges is used to serve the needs of local patients.
