The astonishing artistic legacy of the sultans of India’s Deccan plateau is revealed through some 200 masterworks in all media in Sultans of Deccan India, 1500-1700: Opulence and Fantasy. This landmark presentation includes enchanting paintings, dazzling diamonds and other gems, intricate metalwork, and rare textiles created in the region’s cosmopolitan courts. The exhibition tells the story of the European discovery of the Deccan through its diamonds and textiles, the Deccan’s profound exchanges with the Middle East and Africa, and its artistic and cultural interactions with the imperial Mughals.
