(ST. LOUIS)—The STL Symphony, in partnership with the Pulitzer Arts Foundation, is pleased to announce a special Wednesday, April 20 performance of Pulitzer Prize winner John Luther Adams’ Ilimaq by percussionist Glenn Kotche, most widely known for his work with the critically-acclaimed rock band Wilco.

Ilimaq, or “spirit journey” in the native Alaskan language Inupiaq, is a 50-minute work of percussion with live electronics, which The New York Times calls, “music that refuses to be pegged.” Composed in collaboration and originally premiered by Kotche in 2012, Ilimaq was released in October 2015 on Cantaloupe Music to The Guardian proclaiming it, “a work of great power and often surprising, stark beauty.”

Started in 2002, The Pulitzer Concert Series is an on-going collaboration that pairs contemporary classical works, carefully selected by STL Symphony Music Director David Robertson, to complement current exhibitions on view in the Pulitzer galleries.

On view for the April 20 concert will be Ellipsis, a group exhibition which invites visitors to listen, look, touch, taste, and pause—celebrating the senses and embracing a range of individual and collective experiences. Through six distinct installations spanning six galleries, Ellipsis encompasses a variety of mediums, time periods, and disciplines,  with works by artists Janet Cardiff, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Roman Ondák, and Odilon Redon; poets Thylias Moss and Claudia Rankine—with a specially commissioned video poem by Ms. Rankine, created in collaboration with filmmaker John Lucas—and essayist John Bresland. Ellipsis has been organized by the Pulitzer, and is on view from April 15 through July 2, 2016.
