SARASOTA, FL: Tyler Yurckonis, owner of the Starlite Room, plays Brian, a dutiful, guilt-ridden son visiting his mother (Jenny Aldrich Walker) in the short comedy “Weekly Visit.” In another play, real-life mother and daughter Eve Caballero and Cassie Caballero take the stage as a mother and daughter in “The Company You Keep.” The plays are part of “Mind Games,” four short comedies that deal with the ways people perceive—or are manipulated to perceive—what they take for reality. Starlite Players will present “Mind Games” on Thursday through Saturday, May 19-20-21, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 22, at 6:30 p.m. in the casual, intimate theater upstairs at The Starlite Room, 1001 Cocoanut Avenue.

The four plays are:

“Weekly Visit” by Marvin Albert, directed by Bob Trisolini. Brian (Tyler Yurckonis) visits Mother Lambert (Jenny Aldrich Walker) in her assisted living facility, fearfully expecting to encounter a barrage of guilt–and she doesn’t disappoint. Can anyone’s life really be so sad and lonely? Really?

“The Company You Keep” by Nicole Cunningham, directed by Bob Trisolini. Two mothers (Eve Caballero, Heather Forte) vie for presidency of the PTA while their daughters (Cassie Caballero, Vanessa Russo) compete for homecoming queen. Some people never outgrow their school days.

“Cabin Pressure” by William H. Sikorski, directed by Mark Woodland. The plane has been boarded but the cell phones have not yet been silenced, much to the dismay of the man in the middle. He sits trapped between two women on their phones, having very private conversations he doesn’t want to hear.

“Reverse Psychology” by George Freek, directed by Mark Woodland. “How badly do you want this job? Would you kill for it? … Would you seduce my wife?” Michael thinks he is well-prepared for the interview but the situation becomes ever more bizarre.

Starlite Players stages an evening of short, unpublished comedies for one weekend each month and has produced 33 plays since its debut in July 2015. Its focus is on theater professionals from the Tampa Bay area. Tickets at $17.50 include the four plays and a 15% discount on an optional pre- or post-show dinner at The Starlite Room.
