CULVER CITY, CA – Thursday, January 21, 2016 – Sony Movie Channel presents an award-winning February lineup packed with celebrated dramas, classic thrillers, creature features, and many more. This month’s roster includes an Oscar® Night celebration putting the spotlight on past winners and nominees, as well as premieres of ICE SOLDIERS with Dominic Purcell and EIGHT MILLIMETER with Nicolas Cage; a Ray Harryhausen two-pack; and the Stephen King classic STAND BY ME, among others.

BAD COUNTRY (2014)—Network Premiere—Tues., Feb. 9 at 10 p.m. ET

With the mob on his tail and his life on the line, police informant Matt Dillon teams up with detective Willem Dafoe to bring a violent crime boss to justice.

 

ICE SOLDIERS (2013)—Broadcast Premiere—Mon., Feb. 15 at 10 p.m. ET

Dominic Purcell uncovers ice-cold terror when a scientific expedition reveals genetically modified Russian killing machines with one sole purpose: to destroy Western civilization.

 

EIGHT MILLIMETER (1999)—Network Premiere—Fri., Feb. 19 at 10 p.m. ET

A mysterious snuff film sends investigator Nicholas Cage into a seedy underworld of murder and deceit, in this taut thriller starring Joaquin Phoenix and James Gandolfini.

THE FISHER KING (1991)—Mon., Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. ET

Acclaimed Terry Gilliam directs this tale of redemption, starring Jeff Bridges as a DJ who seeks to help homeless man Robin Williams find the Holy Grail. Mercedes Ruehl’s portrayal of Bridges’ girlfriend, Anne, earned her the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

 

THE AGE OF INNOCENCE (1993)—Tues., Feb. 16 at 12 p.m. ET

Martin Scorsese directs Daniel Day-Lewis as a lawyer caught in a love triangle with Winona Ryder and Michelle Pfeiffer, in this celebrated period piece that won the Oscar® for Best Costume Design.

 

Oscar® Night Two-Pack—Sun., Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. ET

Go for the gold with SMC in an Oscar Night block starring James Garner as a kindly pharmacist who woos single mom Sally Field in MURPHY’S ROMANCE, which received Oscar® nominations for Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Cinematography. And Jack Nicholson stars as a curmudgeonly writer who falls for waitress Helen Hunt in the James L. Brooks comedy AS GOOD AS IT GETS, with Greg Kinnear. Nicholson’s role earned him the Oscar® for Best Actor in a Leading Role, while Hunt took home the award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

STAND BY ME (1986)—Tues., Feb. 2 at 8:20 p.m. ET

SMC celebrates 30 years of the beloved Stephen King adaptation, starring River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Wil Wheaton, and Jerry O’Connell as a group of friends in search of a body in this classic coming-of-age drama directed by Rob Reiner.

 

BRIAN’S SONG Back-To-Back—Tues., Feb. 16 at 10 p.m. ET

SMC hits the gridiron with a touchdown two-pack featuring James Caan and Billy Dee Williams in the 1971 classic BRIAN’S SONG, the true story of the bond formed by Chicago Bears stars Brian Piccolo and Gayle Sayers. Then, Mekhi Phifer and Sean Maher step into the football heroes’ cleats in the 2001 TV remake at 11:25 p.m. ET.

 

Ray Harryhausen Double Feature—Sun., Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. ET

SMC pays tribute to FX wizard Ray Harryhausen with two of his finest films, starring Kerwin Mathews as the legendary Sinbad, going toe-to-toe with a Cyclops, a skeleton warrior, a monstrous dragon and more, in a quest to save a princess from a sorcerer’s curse in THE 7th VOYAGE OF SINBAD. And Mathews helps the pint-sized Lilliputians battle menacing giants in THE 3 WORLDS OF GULLIVER, at 8:40 p.m.
