The Elders to visit Russia from 27-29 April 2015

Six members of The Elders will travel to Moscow on Monday 27 April for a series of private meetings with Russian officials, dignitaries and academics. It will be The Elders’ first visit to Russia as a group. The Elders hope to meet H.E. President Vladimir Putin on the final day of their trip.

The Elders travelling to Russia are:

Kofi Annan, Chair of the Elders, former UN Secretary-General and Nobel Peace Laureate – delegation leader;
Martti Ahtisaari, former President of Finland and Nobel Peace Laureate;
Lakhdar Brahimi, former Foreign Minister of Algeria;
Gro Harlem Brundtland, former Prime Minister of Norway and Deputy Chair of The Elders;
Jimmy Carter, former President of the United States of America Nobel Peace Laureate; and
Ernesto Zedillo, former President of Mexico.

Brought together by Nelson Mandela in 2007, the Elders are twelve independent global leaders who use their collective influence and experience to promote peace, justice and human rights worldwide.

The purpose of the three-day visit to Russia is to listen to interlocutors and engage in discussion of some of the key foreign policy issues of the day, including the Middle East, how to combat terrorism and United Nations reform.
