The Sarasota Film Festival hosted the stunning “Cinema Tropicale” party on Friday, April 11 at the Sarasota Yacht Club, which was adorned with vibrant lights that formed a captivating setting. This island-themed celebration started with a splendid red carpet with the arrival of filmmakers, writers, artists, sponsors, guests, SFF board of directors, staff, and media who mingled within the magnificent view of the marina and Sarasota bay.

Representing the Press, I had the pleasure to talk with Ray Rodriguez, producer/director, and Lori Collins, screen writer of the documentary: China “El Dragon” Smith. This is a short of 21 minutes length about the life of a 2-time Heavyweight Boxing World Champion, who after four losses walked away from boxing, but then he made a comeback for another chance to compete for the same title in a couple of months. These local filmmakers communicated to me their fulfillment in creating this short documentary and participating in the SFF.

It was also interesting to meet Louis Ortiz an impersonator of President Barack Obama, and the main actor in the film “BRONX Obama” directed and produced by Ryan Murdock. This documentary, with a running time of 94 minutes, shows how the life of Ortiz has extremely changed since he discovered his surprising resemblance with the most powerful man in the world.

Two locations of the Sarasota Yacht Club had buffets with exotic Caribbean cuisine, and great entertainments during the Cinema Tropicale party. In one of the open space was playing a tropical band, and at the swimming pool area a DJ; certainly, the music stirred up the environment for dancing and fun. Artists of the Living Art studio presented two models which were beautifully painted with variety of designs and bright colors on them; also, there were astounding fire spinners and a vivid high-end fashion show. All these performances were the lively moments of the evening.

Cinema Tropicale was a colorful celebration full of energy. Sponsors’ names were visible in the area, and attendees demonstrated enjoyment in this wonderful occasion.
