Sarasota Film Festival closing night festivities at the Cinema Tropicale party totally befitted the film industry.

A night filled with all the drama and artistry one might expect from a movie; special lighting and sound effects, props creating a theatrical setting, choreographed entertainment, make-up in the form of total body painting, and a fashion show showcasing such high fashion ensembles one might think of them as costumes.

It was quite a production and highly entertaining.  The basic setting surrounding the pool and overlooking the bay and marina at the Sarasota Yacht Club provided the perfect back drop.  Add to that a see through runway spanning the pool along with two platforms which each gave the illusion of floating on the water.  A D.J. placed in a “sky box” with curtains beneath behind which the silhouettes of dancers could be viewed throughout the night.  Vivid lighting cast a constantly changing spectrum of color over all.  Fog rising from the pool added a surreal dimension to the setting.

As the party got underway two models, whose entire costumes were composed of body painting, took their positions on the platforms “floating” in the pool.  A conversation with the make-up artists revealed that it took approximately ten hours to create these elaborate “costumes.”  Two fire dancers then appeared and performed a very dramatic, well choreographed routine on the “floating” platform.  Somewhat later, the fashion show began with the models somewhat dancing to a beat so loud that you could almost feel it vibrate within your body, adding to the drama, as they made their way down the runway in their very avant garde ensembles.

Just as in a film, words cannot adequately describe the sensational sights and sounds created through using all the artistry of that used in filmmaking.
