Sarasota Cuban Ballet School Announces Summer 2014 Summer Intensive Program
Legendary master teacher Ramona de Saa to guest teach

SARASOTA, FL February 6, 2014 – The Sarasota Cuban Ballet School is announcing its Summer Intensive Intermediate and Advanced Ballet program which will run for six weeks, June 23 – August 1.

Legendary master teacher Ramona de Saa, director of the National Ballet School of Cuba, will teach master classes for the last two weeks of the program. As part of this historic, cultural exchange opportunity, Maestra de Saa will bring three student couples from the National Ballet of Cuba to participate in classes alongside students participating in the program.

This year’s summer intensive will consist of three levels: advanced, intermediate and beginner. Advanced and intermediate students will train six days a week and be exposed to five hours of rigorous dance training daily, including classical ballet technique, pointe class variations, pas de deux, modern, jazz, character and dance conditioning. Beginner students will train four hours per day in classical ballet technique, variations, acro and flamenco for five days weekly.

Instruction will be conducted by Sarasota Cuban Ballet School director and co-founder Ariel Serrano, artistic director and co-founder Wilmian Hernandez, Delia Ballart Arcia, as well as dance conditioning and fitness instructor Emilio Borjas. The school will also bring in Cuban trained guest teachers from the Bellas Artes de Monterrey, Mexico.

The six week course will end with two public performances on August 1 at the Sarasota Opera House. An afternoon performance will feature all course participants, and an evening gala will showcase advanced students and the Cuban student performers, who are their country’s top dancers.

“This has been a dream of ours to bring my teacher over to our school here,” says Serrano. “She is the teacher who has taught all of the Cuban ballet stars. To us, Ramona is the mother of the Cuban Ballet School, as Alicia Alonso and Fernando Alonzo are to the Cuban National Ballet company.”

The Sarasota Cuban Ballet School has seen remarkable success since opening in 2012. In 2013, it received Outstanding School Award from the Atlanta Youth American Grand Prix.  Similarly its students have won top honors in national competitions, such as taking Gold in Classic and Contemporary at the American Dance Competition (Francisco Serrano), two-time winner of the American Dance Competition (ADC) Junior ADC Grand Prix (Gabriella Stilo) and 2nd place (Adriana Hitchcock, Classical) at the Youth American Grand Prix.

The school offers all levels of ballet instruction, including creative movement, dance conditioning, character, variations, jazz, hip hop, modern and partnering.

More information on the Summer Intensive 2014 program, including pricing, is available at The Sarasota Cuban Ballet School website.
