Sarasota Concert Association’s popular free concert series continues its season with the piano and flute virtuosity of this vibrant duo.
(Sarasota, Florida) Sarasota Concert Association’s free Music Matinee Series continues its season with the Lyric Duo of Alison Sincoff, flute, and Gail Berenson, piano, Wednesday, February 15, noon, in David Cohen Hall at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center, 709 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. Their program includes works by Debussy, Otar Takakishvili and contemporary composers Ian Clarke and John La Montaine. The concert is free and open to the public. The Lyric Duo features the collaborative talents of Alison Brown Sincoff, flute and piccolo, and Gail Berenson, piano. In 2004, while faculty members at the Ohio University School of Music, the two women formed the Ohio University Lyric Duo, now called the Lyric Duo following Berenson’s retirement from the university. The union was formed in recognition of the two artists’ mutual respect for each other’s musical contributions and the positive energy achieved in their performances together throughout the U.S. In addition to their recital performances, they offer frequent master classes and workshops.
The two musicians are also no strangers to series coordinator Sylvia Eckes who, like Berenson, is a professor emerita of piano at Ohio University. “It’s been an honor and a privilege to know and work with these two outstanding artists over the years, first in Ohio and now here in Sarasota,” says Eckes. It’s rewarding to be able to present them as part of our Music Matinees series. I know our audiences are in for a real treat.”
The Music Matinee Series (formerly called Munchtime Musicales) is the Sarasota Concert Association’s long-running, community outreach program presenting accomplished, regionally based musicians who represent a vast array of musical styles, including classical, folk, jazz and pop.
The Music Matinee Series season continues with Sarasota Orchestra violinists Christopher Takeda and Jennifer Best Takeda (March 22 at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center); and the swinging big band sounds of the Suncoast Jazz Ambassadors (April 19 at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center).
