Community Encouraged to Join Conversation on the Future of the Sarasota Bayfront
Sarasota Bayfront 20:20 is announcing two public forums to provide the community an opportunity to share input and suggestions regarding the future of the downtown Sarasota Bayfront and the 2007 City of Sarasota Cultural Park Master Plan which has recently been revisited by stakeholders and City of Sarasota leaders. These forums are opportunities for the public to engage in this collaborative process.
Sarasota Bayfront 20:20 is the coalition of community organizations that support the creation of an articulated vision and a long-term master plan for the Sarasota Bayfront area that will establish a cultural and economic legacy for the region while ensuring open, public access to the Bayfront.
By gathering broad-based input, Bayfront 20:20 will synthesize insights and goals and present them to the City of Sarasota Commission. The key goal at this stage is to establish guiding principles and an implementation roadmap for the redevelopment of this valuable asset.
“Never again in our lifetime will we have such an opportunity to create a lasting legacy and pathway for the successful future of our vibrant community,” said Michael Klauber, volunteer leader of the Sarasota Bayfront 20:20 coalition. “The City of Sarasota owned Cultural District encompassing 42 acres from Boulevard of the Arts to Payne Terminal surrounding the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, and the former GWIZ, the Quay site and Proscenium properties on the east side of Tamiami Trail compose almost 75 acres in downtown Sarasota. No other planning opportunities for a metro-downtown waterfront location of this large a scale exist anywhere else in Florida.”
To assist in the community process, Sarasota Bayfront 20:20 has retained the services of HR&A Advisors of New York. HR&A has provided strategic advisory services to some of the most complex mixed-use redevelopment projects across North America and abroad for thirty years.
The Sarasota Bayfront 20:20 Forum schedule is as follows:
6:00 pm to 7:30 pm on Monday, October 27 at the Sarasota Garden Club, 1131 Boulevard of the Arts, Sarasota
9:00 am to 10:30 am on Tuesday, October 28 at the Sarasota Garden Club, 1131 Boulevard of the Arts, Sarasota.
More information will be available by October 7 at the new Sarasota Bayfront 20:20 website at www.SarasotaBayfront2020.com.
