THE SARASOTA BALLET JOINS THE LINEUP FOR THE 11th ANNUAL FALL FOR DANCE FESTIVAL IN NEW YORK CITY

Making their New York City debut, The Sarasota Ballet will perform Les Patineurs

Sarasota, Fla. – August 11, 2014 – Joining the roster of acclaimed dance companies and artists from around the world, The Sarasota Ballet is excited to announce their participation in New York City Center’s 11th annual Fall for Dance Festival. The two-week event will feature five unique programs (each program repeated twice) and will run October 8-19.

“To be invited to the Fall for Dance Festival is such an incredible honor for The Sarasota Ballet and a huge reward for our dancers’ hard work and dedication,” said Iain Webb, Director of The Sarasota Ballet.

Making their New York City debut, The Company will present Sir Fredrick Ashton’s Les Patineurs on October 18 and 19, closing the festival with the only classical work performed the entire two weeks. Performing just before The Sarasota Ballet, in the final program, will be Pontus Lidberg Dance out of New York and the Aakash Odedra Company from Wigston, Leicestershire, in the United Kingdom.

Webb and his wife, Assistant Director Margaret Barbieri, are delighted to be closing the festival with Les Patineurs, “Sir Fred has been our inspiration and the dancers of The Sarasota Ballet have been ignited with the same passion,” said Barbieri.

Tickets for the Fall for Dance Festival at City Center are $15 and go on sale on Sunday, September 14. For more information about the festival visit http://www.nycitycenter.org/Home

About The Sarasota Ballet

Since 1990 The Sarasota Ballet, the Gulf Coast of Florida’s only professional ballet company, has been enriching lives, captivating emotions and strengthening the community through the art of dance. Under the leadership of Director Iain Webb, the Company’s expanded repertoire includes works by world-renowned choreographers such as Sir Frederick Ashton, George Balanchine, Dame Ninette de Valois, Twyla Tharp, Antony Tudor, Sir Kenneth MacMillan, John Cranko, Hans van Manen, Andre Prokovsky, Dominic Walsh, Christopher Wheeldon and Matthew Bourne. Receiving national and international recognition for their diverse repertoire of rarely performed ballets, The Sarasota Ballet recently received rave reviews during the Sir Frederick Ashton Festival, which highlighted 14 of the famed choreographer’s ballets and divertissements in four days.  Alastair Macaulay with The New York Times said the Festival was an “extraordinary level both of Mr. Webb’s ambition and his company’s level of achievement.” For more information, please visit www.SarasotaBallet.org or call (941) 359-0099.
