SARASOLO FESTIVAL.. STARLIGHT! STARBRIGHT!
STARLIGHT! STARBRIGHT! written and performed by Joseph Galata of Reno, Nevada, is a 75 minute musical storytelling production detailing the healing journey of a dancing Bachi Baza boy in the Middle East, sold by his parents, trained to dance as a girl and then used for men’s sexual pleasures. Galata will perform his piece on Sunday January 29 at 5:00 pm at the Sarasolo Theatre Festival in Sarasota.
“I’ve been performing this production throughout various states for university faculty and students, law enforcement officers, family therapists, the LGBT community because there are an estimated 21 million American men walking around in ‘silent shame” for having been sexually abused as children, and 1 out of every 6 American male college students are also estimated to have been sexually abused as kids or teens,’ says Galata. “There hasn’t been one performance yet when people – including men – in the audience announce after the performance ME TOO! AND and share their stories – many saying they are telling it for the first time”
