Classical Guitarist, Zachary Johnson to Play at Roser Church
Roser Community Church welcomes classical guitarist, Zachary Johnson to the platform on Sunday, September 28 at 10:00 AM.
Zachary began studying music at nine, but on the piano and clarinet. It was not until he was twelve that he discovered the classical guitar and, from his first lesson, he was hooked. He states, “The instrument has repaid my passion for it by helping me to accomplish things I never dreamed of: attending the finest universities, studying with the current great masters, taken me across America and to Europe to perform. I am happy to be able to share my love for the guitar and its music with you!”
Dr. Zachary Johnson is a young classical guitarist whose talent has garnered national attention.  He has performed in venues across the United States for recitals, competitions, and festivals.  He has most recently performed for the Portland Classic Guitar Series, Seven Hills Concert Series, GuitarSarasota, and as a selected performer for the Stetson International Guitar Festival.
Aside from his performing career, Dr. Johnson is also an active teacher.  He is Adjunct Professor of Guitar at St. Petersburg College, and Adjunct Guitar Teacher at the Pinellas County Center for the Arts at Gibbs High School.  He has served as Adjunct Professor of Guitar at Stetson University, Visiting Adjunct Professor at Florida State University, and Adjunct Professor of Guitar at Tallahassee Community College. He has created the Suzuki guitar program at the Sarasota Suzuki Institute, and also served as the Artistic Director at Florida Enrichment Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
Zachary recieved full scholarships to Yale University, Stetson University, and Florida State University. After receiving his Bachelors from Stetson University, he went on to receive his Masters from Yale University, and recently received his Doctorate of Music from Florida State University. His Doctoral treatise, The Solo Guitar Works of Sir Richard Rodney Bennett, has been published by LAP Academic Publishing, and is available on Amazon.com. Zachary has also performed and studied in masterclasses with many esteemed guitarists.  He has traveled to Italy to study with Andres Segovia’s protégé, Oscar Ghiglia, at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena.  He was also selected to be one of six guitarists in the state of Connecticut to perform in a masterclass for John Williams, arguably the most celebrated living guitarist. For more information about Zachary or to listen to recordings go to his web site: www.zacharyjohnsonguitar.com
For the prelude Zachary will play a newly composed arrangement of “Be Thou My Vision”, and Irish hymn tune (arrangement by Callahan), accompanied by Jim Johnston, Organist and Director of Music Ministries at Roser Church. For the offertory Zachary will play “Milonga” by Jorge Cardoso.
The community is invited to join us for worship at 10:00 AM on Sunday, September 28 to hear Zachary play. Bring the whole family… children will be dismissed after the Children’s Message for their own special program.

I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of contentment in every situation, whether it be a full stomach or hunger, plenty or want; for I can do everything God asks me to with the help of Christ who gives me the strength and power. Philippians 4:12-13 (NIV)
