ROCK N ROLL QUINTET THE SOFT WHITE SIXTIES RELEASE NEW SINGLE “BRICK BY BRICK”
WEST COAST FALL TOUR KICKS OFF OCTOBER 26
ADDITIONAL SINGLES RECORDED IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH TO BE RELEASED IN 2018
LOS ANGELES, CA – September 29, 2017 – Los Angeles rock n’ roll quintet The Soft White Sixties have released their new single “Brick By Brick.” The band’s latest release tackles the subject of Trump’s proposed border wall from the perspective of a first generation Mexican-American, front man Octavio Genera. Not wanting to be political, but demanding of themselves a certain amount of honesty and transparency, Genera wrote what was on his mind: “If you build a wall / we’re going to tear it down / brick by brick.”
The single premiered exclusively on Yahoo! Music and is now available on Apple Music, iTunes, and on all streaming platforms including Spotify. The Soft White Sixties will be kicking off a Fall tour in Sacramento, CA on October 26 and also plan to release additional singles, recorded in both English and Spanish, in 2018.
“Our first night in the studio was Election Night, so naturally that environment crept onto this record,” Genera reflects. “It was hard not to take some offense to someone claiming that a wall and the people on the other side of that wall were the cause of so many problems. The song is my version of my grandparents coming here to better themselves and their children, and I’m thankful they did. I am here, and I am who I am because of it.”
After many years together, the members of The Soft White Sixties have rarely sat still. They’ve lived much of their life in a 15-passenger van, traversing the country, whipping up new riffs, new rhythms, new lyrics and then, almost immediately, breaking them out onstage. For these hard-working musicians, it was simply a way of life. Seven years into their career, they collectively packed up their belongings and headed into a new adventure, relocating from their Bay Area homestead to the bright lights of Los Angeles.
The band will be releasing additional singles, produced by Elijah Tompson (Delta Spirit, Everest, Father John Misty), in early 2018 in both English and Spanish. Growing up speaking both languages, front man Octavio Genera always wondered what it would be like to sing in Spanish, it just didn’t occur to him to try it professionally, and he wasn’t sure there was space for it with his band. “Speaking and singing in a language are two different things,” says Genera. “There was a feeling of joy and passion when I sang these songs in Spanish that I wasn’t expecting. And then hearing the songs back — it was right.”
