RESISTOR Offers Wise Career Advice with “Choose Your Parents Well”
Philly-based synth-popper reveals single in anticipation of record release party

RECORD RELEASE SET FOR MAY 30TH AT BOURBON AND BRANCH IN PHILADELPHIA

(New York, NY) – May 28, 2014

The MuseBox today announced the release of “Choose Your Parents Well the second single from Resistor’s debutfull-lengthFirst World Problems. Resistor, the name used by Steve Goldberg for his synth-based solo project, will release First World Problems on May 30th. With a synth pop sound comparable to OMD and The Human League, Resistor’s debut record was recorded and mixed by Jeff Zeigler (The War on Drugs, Kurt Vile). Resistor will celebrate the official launch of First World Problems with a show on May 30th at Bourbon and Branch in Philadelphia.

With lyrics such as “If you wanna be a star, if you really wanna sell, you better buy the best PR, you better choose your parents well,” Resistor’s “Choose Your Parents Well” addresses the most pressing issue on First World Problems: the search for recognition, for “a rock and roll career.” He adds: “Whether it feels more like a satire of unexamined privilege or the self-delusions of a bitter failure depends on my mood.” Resistor sees the narrators on First World Problems as “extreme versions of different aspects of myself.” According to Goldberg, the “catchy and fun” nature of the record is simply used to “create a context for self-reflection and the posing of questions that lack easy answers.”

Goldberg is the sole creative visionary behind Resistor’s debut full-length. His financial and emotional resources were low, and he “needed a way to make music quickly and cheaply without depending on anyone.” He began writing songs with only his computer and his voice, and Resistor was born. As a result,First World Problems is, by all definitions, a solo album.

“Choose Your Parents Well” and the rest of First World Problems are filled with self-awareness and dark humor. While songs like “Choose Your Parents Well” and “Narcissist” are tongue-in-cheek, the core of Resistor’s debut record is genuine. Goldberg describes First World Problems as “a group of pop songs preoccupied with fame and the artistic process.”Supported by new wave synths, energetic drum machines, and multi-layered vocal harmonies, Resistor uses irony and humor to ask some of the tough questions that need to be asked in a society as connected as ours: “Why do I crave the spotlight? Do I even deserve it? And why should anyone care about what I have to say?”
