Relix Magazine Premieres “Soul Mechanic” from Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal’s new album,

Running from Love

Nashville — March 3, 2016 — Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal’s electric combination of soul, funk and R&B caught the attention of Relix Magazine, that’s premiering the video for “Soul Mechanic.” The song is off Running from Love, produced by Ken Coomer (Wilco, Uncle Tupelo), releasing April 8, 2016, on Silver Street Records. The video is available to view on Relix’s website.
Running from Love, the band’s third full-length album, takes listeners on a journey through the struggle to find contentment, the desire to change the world for the better and the universal need for more love. “Soul Mechanic” seamlessly blends honest lyrics, Hoyer’s trademark vocals and the funky grooves created by his top-notch band.
“On Running from Love the group delivers more of the joyous, soul/funk that continues to win new audiences,” Relix said.
“Outside one of the clubs we frequently play in Lincoln, a friend of mine and I were talking after a show. She had been going through a pretty nasty relationship situation and was explaining to a group of us that she just didn’t feel right. Like she needed a mechanic for her soul,” Hoyer tells Relix. “I mused and then sang out, ‘I need a soul mechanic, feel so broken down!,’ just like it is on the record. Everyone jumped in and we started singing that and adding our own little spins. Folks passing by probably thought we had lost it, but I tell you the boisterous singing, hand-clapping and dancing were exactly what our friend needed. Us too!”
Josh is a longtime champion of the Lincoln music scene, and has been spreading the word across the nation during tours with acts like George Clinton and Booker T. Jones — their sound in itself is a testament to the city’s vibrant scene, and proves that smooth soul is alive and well in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The hard-working band completed several national tours in 2015, playing more than 150 shows in 32 states. During small breaks, the band also released a live album, Cooked Raw, in November on limited edition vinyl.
Running From Love is set for release on April 8, 2016, on Silver Street Records, and will be released on vinyl, CD and digital formats.
