Realize Bradenton Announces New Board Members

Four additions to Realize Bradenton’s board of directors strengthen and diversify the organization’s leadership.

(Bradenton, FL) Realize Bradenton, Inc., a nonprofit that builds community and economic development, recently announced the addition of four new members to its 12-member board of directors. Elected to three-year board positions are Mark Boehmig, Jedd Heap, Dr. Mike Mears and Sue Revell. The board of directors takes action on critical issues and opportunities from a mission-based perspective to build community and economic development in downtown Bradenton.

“We’re very pleased to add these talented individuals to the Realize Bradenton board,” says Dennis Zink, chair of Realize Bradenton’s board of directors. “Each one has vital ties to the community and is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Bradenton. Their widespread backgrounds and depth of professional experience make them important assets to Realize Bradenton and to the work we do.”

Mark Boehmig’s professional career spans 30 years in Georgia’s manufacturing industry, including 14 years at the helm of his own company, Technical Toolings Systems, Inc. In 2014, Boehmig sold Technical Toolings Systems, and he and his wife, Karen, relocated to Bradenton, where Boehmig has parlayed his extensive sales background and experience with investment properties into a successful new career as a Realtor with Michael Saunders & Company.

Since 1998, in his quest to “improve communities one building at a time,” architect Jedd Heap, AIA, has worked with a variety of prominent firms in the Sarasota-Manatee area. Currently a project architect with Fawley Bryant Architects, Heap has also served his community and profession in a number of volunteer leadership roles. He’s been a member of the advisory board of Manatee County’s 14th Street Community Redevelopment Agency; is a past president of the Gulfcoast Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA); and is currently the regional director for the Florida Caribbean Region of the AIA’s Young Architects Forum. Heap is also a past president and is currently the regional representative of the Suncoast chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute, the industry standard bearer for sound architecture and construction practices nationwide.

Dr. Mike Mears is vice president of Strategic Initiatives at State College of Florida (SCF), where he has held various posts, including professor of mathematics (for over 30 years), department chair, division director, dean of instruction, and vice president of Baccalaureate Programs/provost of SCF Bradenton, before moving into his current role in 2014. A native of Florida, Mears was born and raised in St. Petersburg and attended St. Petersburg Junior College, Florida State University, and the University of Kentucky. Mears has served extensively in leadership positions beyond SCF, with the Florida Two-Year College Mathematics Association and the Mathematical Association of America, serving most recently as governor of the Florida Section.

Sue Revell has served as the executive director of the Manatee County Bar Association since 1991, where she handles administration and communications, and serves as the public face of the organization, acting as liaison between the Bar Association and other professional organizations and providing support to association members in and outside of the local law community. A native Floridian and a resident of Manatee County since 1977, Revell supports a number of local non-profit organizations, including Manatee River Fair Association, First United Methodist Church of Palmetto, Bradenton Yacht Club, Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida, Manatee County 4-H Program, Florida Council of Bar Executives, the Hernando DeSoto Historical Society and the Just for Girls Manatee County Girls Club.

Realize Bradenton’s board of directors includes Ann Breitinger, Kim Daglish, Bridgette Halliburton, Melodie Rich, Chris Timol, Kay Wight, Jennifer Zavidil, Dennis Zink, and Vernon DeSear (Director Emeritus).
