Re-energized Silver Foxes return with an all-new show and new director
Award-winning director Brad Wages takes helm of the Silver Foxes
Venice Theatre’s senior theatre performance troupe, The Silver Foxes, will take to Venice Theatre’s MainStage for their annual March performances on March 19 through March 23, 2014. Breaking from the tradition of their usual variety show format, they will perform a full-length original musical under the direction of Brad Wages. The show is a musical comedy called “It’s a Country Thang, Ya’ll!” and might remind audiences of a cross between Green Acres (city meets country) and the old Mickey Rooney/Judy Garland movies (let’s put on a show in the barn). Performances are Wednesday through Saturday at 8 p.m. Sunday’s performance is at 2 p.m. Reserved seats are $24 and can be purchased online at www.venicestage.com or by calling the box office at 941-488-1115.
The Silver Foxes are professionally-directed volunteer performers who have been entertaining around the area for 22 years. Bringing song, dance and laughter to community centers, religious groups and clubs throughout Sarasota County, they currently reach nearly 5,000 audience members each season with their touring shows. Their annual MainStage show helps raise money for Venice Theatre’s education and outreach programs. This year’s show is their most ambitious ever, bringing together the singers, dancers and actors to tell a full story.
Brad Wages took on the role of Artistic Director of the Silver Foxes earlier this year. “We’re excited to update the format of the show with a good comic storyline and more integration between the singers, actors and dancers. Everyone is having a great time doing a little bit of everything,” Wages says. He goes on to comment, “Their energy and enthusiasm has been fantastic. I’m having a great time with the group.” Bobby Brader is the resident musical director of the Foxes.
Tickets for the 22nd Annual Silver Foxes production and all remaining shows in Venice Theatre’s 2013-2014 Season are available online at www.venicestage.com or by phone at 941-488-1115.
