RANGERS SIGN RHP JAMEY WRIGHT TO MINOR LEAGUE CONTRACT

WITH INVITATION TO MAJOR LEAGUE SPRING TRAINING

Veteran pitched for Rangers in 2007 and 2008

Arlington, Texas – The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has signed right-handed pitcher Jamey Wright to a minor league contract with an invitation to major league spring training camp.

Wright, 40, pitched for the Dodgers in 2014, going 5-4 with one save and a 4.35 ERA (34 ER/70.1 IP) in 61 games/one start.  He has made at least 60 appearances in 4 straight and 6 of the last 7 seasons, one of only 8 major league pitchers with 6 such seasons since 2008.  He began that span with a career-high 75 appearances for Texas in 2008, which was a club record for a right-handed pitcher until Tanner Scheppers’ 76 games in 2013.

Wright has a career record of 97-130 with a 4.81 ERA in 719 games/248 starts over 19 major league seasons for 10 different major league clubs.  He ranks 5th among active pitchers in games and 15th in innings despite spending the bulk of the last 7 years as a reliever.  He went 12-12 with a 4.41 ERA (79 ER/161.1 IP) in 95 games/9 starts for the Rangers in 2007-08, and also pitched in the club’s farm system in 2003.

With the addition of Wright, the Rangers’ spring roster now stands at 62 players: a full 40-man roster plus 22 non-roster invitees to camp.
