RANGERS ADD OUTFIELDER MIKE CARP TO ACTIVE ROSTER;

PLACE CATCHER CHRIS GIMENEZ ON PATERNITY LIST

Carp in starting lineup for Rangers tonight in Chicago

Chicago, Ill. – The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club has added outfielder Mike Carp (#28) to the active 25-man roster after he reported today.  Carp takes the roster spot of catcher Chris Gimenez, who has been placed on MLB’s Paternity Leave List.  A player can be on the Paternity Leave List for a maximum of three days.

Carp, 28, was received by the Rangers yesterday on a waiver claim from the Boston Red Sox.  He is in the starting lineup tonight, seeking his Texas debut.  Carp batted .198 (17-86) with no homers and 9 RBI in 42 games with Boston this season.  The left-handed batter was designated for assignment by the Red Sox on Friday.  Carp is a career .260 hitter with 27 home runs and 123 RBI over 301 major league games with Seattle (2009-12) and Boston (2013-14), playing primarily first base and left field.  He set career highs in slugging (.523) and OPS (.885) for the Red Sox in 2013.

Gimenez has batted .262 with no home runs and 11 RBI in 34 games with Texas this season.  He is the first Rangers player to go on the paternity list since Michael Young, Aug. 24-27, 2012.

FEIERABEND ASSIGNED OUTRIGHT TO ROUND ROCK: Left-handed pitcher Ryan Feierabend (pronounced FEAR-ah-bend), who was designated for assignment by Texas on Friday, has been assigned outright to Triple-A Round Rock.  He compiled no record and a 6.14 ERA (5 ER/7.1 IP) over 6 relief outings with Texas after having his contract purchased from Round Rock on July 12.  He has spent the rest of the season with the Express, going 8-5 with a 4.54 ERA in 19 starts.
