RANGERS ACTIVATE RHP STOLMY PIMENTEL ON 25-MAN ROSTER;

OPTION RHP JON EDWARDS TO TRIPLE-A ROUND ROCK

Pimentel was received on waiver claim from Pittsburgh on Saturday

Arlington, Texas – The Texas Rangers announced this morning that the club has activated right-handed pitcher Stolmy Pimentel (#57) on the 25-man roster after he reported today.  To make room on the active roster for Pimentel, the club has optioned right-handed pitcher Jon Edwards to Triple-A Round Rock.

Pimentel, 25, was received on a waiver claim from Pittsburgh yesterday.  He had been designated for assignment by the Pirates on Sunday, April 5, when Pittsburgh set its season-opening 25-man roster.  He made 9 Grapefruit League appearances for the Pirates this spring, going 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA (6 ER/11.0 IP) while holding opponents to a .268 average.  Pimentel went 2-1 with a 5.23 ERA (19 ER/32.2 IP) and 38 strikeouts over 20 appearances for the Pirates in 2014.  He was originally acquired by Pittsburgh in a Dec. 26, 2012 trade with Boston involving right-handed pitcher Joel Hanrahan

Edwards was recalled from Round Rock yesterday and pitched in relief last night versus Houston, issuing walks to both batters faced.  He had pitched in Round Rock’s season opener on Thursday at Oklahoma City after being optioned to Triple-A on April 4 at the end of spring training.

The Rangers have a full 40-man roster plus 7 players on the 60-day disabled list.
