Pro Musica brings pair of rising stars to Detroit

DETROIT, Mich. — Pro Musica Detroit will welcome a pair of rising musical stars to Metro Detroit on Sunday. Violinist Elena Urioste will join pianist and composer Michael Brown for a performance at The Max M. Fisher Music Center’s Music Box on April 12.

Urioste and Brown have received international acclaim for their talent and musicianship. Urioste is a former first-place laureate of both the junior and senior divisions of the Detroit-based Sphinx Competition. She has won Switzerland’s Sion-Valais International Violin Competition, a London Music Masters Award, a Salon di Virtuosi career grant and the inaugural Sphinx Medal of Excellence. She was recently selected as a BBC New Generation Artist.

 

Brown is one of five emerging artists who received a prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant this year. He has been called “one of the leading figures in the current renaissance of performer-composers” and “a young piano visionary” by the New York Times.

Michael Brown is a 2015 recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant.

“Once again, Pro Musica Detroit is showcasing artists who are in the process of becoming real musical stars,” said John van der Griendt, President of Pro Musica of Detroit.

The duo will perform an eclectic program of British and American pieces, including one of Brown’s original works. The performance will open with Four Souvenirs, composed by University of Michigan professor and Detroit native Paul Schoenfield.
