PRENTICE CULTURAL’S MUST-SEE PICK FOR SUMMER:

Gerard & Kelly’s Timelining

Storylines: Contemporary Art at the Guggenheim

Through September 7, 5:45 – 9:00 PM

Gerard and Kelly’s brilliant Timelining is our MUST-SEE pick for summer. We hope you get the opportunity to see this performance piece one Monday this month before this summer comes to an end!

Gerard & Kelly’s Timelining (2014) is featured in Storylines: Contemporary Art at the Guggenheim, an exhibition curated by Katherine Brinson, Carmen Hermo, Nancy Spector, Nat Trotman, and Joan Young. Don’t miss this extraordinary performance piece performed on the Guggenheim Museum’s rotunda floor, Monday evenings through September 7 from 5:45 to 9 PM.

Timelining (originally performed at The Kitchen to rave reviews) was acquired by the Guggenheim this year as only the second work to enter the museum’s growing performance collection. The work features a series of paired performers involved in close relationships–romantic, familial, or otherwise. Moving across Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic spiral rotunda in interlocking circular patterns, two performers take turns remembering fragments of their personal histories from the present moment backward. When one performer falters, the other takes over, narrating his/her own timeline from a corresponding moment. Timelining reflects Gerard & Kelly’s understanding, in their words, of “subjectivity as formed in relation to others, by desire, and always in motion.”

Gerard & Kelly employ multiple disciplines—performance, video, and installation—to examine questions of collective and individual memory, gender and sexuality, queer subjectivity, and the relationship between dance and visual art. Both artists completed the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program (ISP) in 2010 and received MFAs from UCLA in 2013.

Happy Summer!
