P!NK NAMES “DON’T CRY OUT LOUD,”
MELISSA MANCHESTER’S GRAMMY®-NOMINATED
TOP 10 HIT, AS HER FAVORITE SONG TO SING
“Don’t Cry Out Loud” Is One Of Many Hits Found On THROUGH THE EYES OF LOVE: The Complete Arista 7” Singles, Out Now
Manchester Pays Tribute To Mel Tormé With New Single,
“Love Is Just Around The Corner,” From The Fellas
During her recent appearance on “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen,” P!NK had a surprising answer when Cohen asked what was her favorite song to sing. Rather than naming one of her own hits, she quickly replied by singing “Don’t Cry Out Loud.” A GRAMMY-nominated Top 10 smash for Melissa Manchester, the song can be found on THROUGH THE EYES OF LOVE: The Complete Arista 7” Singles (Real Gone Music and Second Disc Records), a 43-song set of the legendary artist’s singles (both A and B sides) that was released in September. The collection also includes such hits as “Midnight Blue,” the GRAMMY-winning “You Should Hear How She Talks About You” and the Oscar-nominated “Theme from Ice Castles (Through the Eyes of Love).”
Manchester’s brand new single, “Love Is Just Around The Corner,” goes for adds at radio on November 6. She scats with ease on the buoyant track, which is from her new album, The Fellas (Long Run Entertainment, LLC),a radiant homage to iconic male singers. While the standard has been recorded by countless artists, Manchester found particular inspiration in Mel Tormé’s version.
“Late one night, while scouring YouTube for clips on Mel Tormé, I came across his astounding scat tour de force of ‘Love Is Just Around the Corner,’ accompanied by the late, great George Shearing on piano,” recalls Melissa Manchester. “Since I’d honored Ella Fitzgerald with her scat tour de force of ‘Lady Be Good’ 28 years earlier on my TRIBUTE album, Maestro Tormé’s feat seemed the perfect pairing of two astounding artists I so admired. To the best of my knowledge this is the only orchestrated version of this crazy confection.”

In this recent interview with Sam Rubin for Los Angeles’ “KTLA Morning News,” Manchester talked about what it was like recording The Fellas with a group of students and singing “For Me and My Gal” with her friend Barry Manilow, who shares her commitment to music education. Manchester co-produced The Fellas with Robert Slack, Dean of Visual and Performing Arts at Citrus College in Glendora, CA. She is backed by The Citrus College Blue Note Orchestra, which is composed of students, alumni and faculty from the community college. She launched The Fellas with performance/record release parties in Los Angeles and her hometown of New York City. The album is available now on Amazon and iTunes.
