Or should I let it destroy me
Either way I’ll still be kissing the beast”

Los Angeles-based indie rock artist PATRICK DENNIS will release his debut full-length solo album FÜRST IN THE DIRT June 19 via Wharfechild Recording Co. The singer, songwriter and guitarist—a former member of Wirepony and Truckee Brothers—has partnered with DIFFUSER.FM to premiere the official music video for the album’s first single, the hard-charging “Kissing The Beast,” today (3/26). You can watch it HERE. FÜRST IN THE DIRT is available for pre-order HERE.

Making an indelible mark with such songs as “Love is a Bomb,” “Burn and Shine,” “Hit of You” and the aforementioned “Kissing The Beast,” FÜRST IN THE DIRT will be available on iTunes (and similar digital retailers) in addition to a special limited vinyl pressing on pink vinyl (release date for vinyl TBA). The album was recorded at Nashville, TN’s Playground Sound directly to analog tape and engineered/produced by Adam Landry and Justin Collins—collectively known as Cosmic Thug (T. Hardy Morris, Deer Tick, Nikki Lane, K.D. Lang, and Diamond Rugs)—who pulled DENNIS out of his comfort zone.

“I ended up with a sound that is much more me than any other record I have made,” says DENNIS. “Adam and Justin of Cosmic Thug brought something out in the tones and the ragged glory of those songs that I had been hearing in my head for a long time. They simply helped turn an idea into a reality.” Adam and Justin appear in the “Kissing The Beast” video that was directed by DENNIS and shot by Kim Collins and DENNIS.

DENNIS decided to take his career in a new direction following the dismantlement of his previous bands. During a party in Las Cruces, New Mexico on his way home from the last tour, he met painter Carlos Estrada Vega. “We ended up huddled over a bottle of wine in the corner while the party went on around us having a long and deep discussion about art, life, and our responsibility to the passions that drove each of us,” says DENNIS. “He challenged me to accept that the passions that drove me to create, to make music, and even to live our lives were actually gifts—real gifts.”

When asked about what he hopes listeners will take away from FÜRST IN THE DIRT, DENNIS says, “Some joy, some hip shaking, as well as something to sing along to, and something to blast while driving down the highway.”
