David Suchet says, “I’m delighted that ‘The Importance Of Being Earnest,’ one of the finest plays in the English language, will be screened in movie theatres across the U.S. on November 3. Oscar Wilde toured America on several occasions and it is fitting that his greatest masterpiece should be shared with his many fans across the pond in its 120th anniversary year.”

With its high farce and witty dialogue “The Importance of Being Earnest” is Oscar Wilde’s most enduringly popular play and fizzes with satire as he delights in debunking social pretensions. Two bachelor friends, aristocratic dandy Algernon Moncrieff and the most reliable John Worthing, J.P., lead double lives to court the attentions of the desirable Gwendolyn Fairfax and Cecily Cardew. The gallants must then grapple with the uproarious consequences of their ruse, and with the formidable Lady Bracknell, played by Suchet.

The play also stars Emily Barber (Billy Liar, Cornelius, The Hired Man), Michael Benz (Downton Abbey, Hamlet, As You Like It), Philip Cumbus (A Touch Of Frost, My Hero, Hope and Glory), Imogen Doel (The Get Out, Gastronauts), Michele Dotrice (Some Mothers Do Ave ‘Em, Captain Jack, The Witches) and Richard O’Callaghan (Carry On Loving and Carry On at Your Convenience, Casualty).

“’The Importance of Being Earnest’ has remained relevant to both old and new audiences throughout the years and Fathom is pleased to celebrate the 120th anniversary of this time-honored play by bringing this production to the big screen,” said Fathom Events Vice President of Programming Kymberli Frueh.

Christine Costello, Managing Director of More2Screen comments: “We are pleased to be working once again with our long-term US distribution partner, Fathom Events, on this exciting theatre project. ‘The Importance Of Being Earnest’ is both a well-known classic and stars the instantly recognizable David Suchet – a winning combination for this big screen release.”
