New Live Stream Series Launches on Curtis Performs

Watch live online every Friday beginning October 23 at www.curtis.edu/CurtisPerforms

PHILADELPHIA,PA—October 23, 2015—Curtis Performs launches its first-ever series of live-streamed concerts on Friday, October 23 at 8 p.m., bringing Curtis performances to homes around the world. Friday night recitals in the school’s renowned Field Concert Hall will be streamed live each week at www.curtis.edu/CurtisPerforms, supplemented by additional concerts on other nights throughout the year.

The series kicks off with the year’s first student recital, featuring the award-winning Aizuri Quartet performing Sibelius’s Quartet for Strings in D Minor (“Voces Intimae”), and continues every Friday night throughout the school year. Featured events include graduation recitals of students in their final year at Curtis, vocal recitals, residency recitals with acclaimed guests Unsuk Chin, 2015–16 composer in residence at Curtis (November 11), violinist Miriam Fried (February 12), and cellist Gary Hoffman (April 22), as well as special concerts by the Curtis 20/21 Ensemble, the school’s contemporary music ensemble.

All live streams begin at 8 p.m. EDT and can be accessed at www.curtis.edu/CurtisPerforms. Video remains live for 72 hours following the performance.

Free with a high-speed internet connection, the Curtis Performs live stream can be viewed on any mobile device or desktop. In addition to hosting live-streamed performances throughout the year, Curtis Performs contains a wealth of HD concert highlights and full-length works featuring Curtis students, faculty, and alumni. Performances are recorded in high definition with broadcast-quality video cameras. New content from Field Concert Hall, Gould Rehearsal Hall, and Verizon Hall is posted regularly.

Drawing upon 90 years of artistry, the Curtis Institute of Music pairs tradition and innovation, educating exceptionally gifted young musicians as artist-citizens who engage a local and global community through music-making of the highest caliber. Each year 175 students come to Curtis, drawn by a tuition-free, performance-inspired learning culture. In this intimate environment, they are nurtured by a celebrated faculty and inspired by the school’s distinctive “learn by doing” approach, offering more than 200 concerts each year in Philadelphia, as well as performances around the world through Curtis on Tour.

“One of the world’s finest music academies” (BBC Culture), Curtis reaches global audiences through Curtis Performs and online music courses. Summerfest programs offer lifelong learners further ways to listen, explore, and perform. And students hone 21st-century skills through social entrepreneurship programs that bring arts access and education to the community.

The extraordinary young musicians of Curtis graduate to join 4,000 alumni who have long made music history. Each season leading orchestras, opera houses, and chamber music series around the world feature Curtis alumni. They are in the front rank of soloists, composers, and conductors and hold principal chairs in every major American orchestra. When they graduate, they become musical leaders, making a profound impact on music onstage and in their communities. To learn more, visit www.curtis.edu.
