Montreal native Cafeine triumphs over heartbreak with New Love album, set for February 17 release in America
(Los Angeles, CA) – December 11th, 2014

Just in time for the holidays and to celebrate the American release of New Love (out Feb 17) by Montrealer Xavier Cafeine, comes this first sampling “Love Disease (Christmas in New York)”, now available as a free download via PopMatters. New Love is described as an anthemic celebration of the will to survive, a loud and reverberating affirmation that we can find something magical within our misery. Cafeine’s initial piece of evidence is “Love Disease (Christmas in New York),” a dark, yet triumphant, ode to the pain and isolation of one’s first Christmas without a lost love.

Cafeine’s first two albums, Mal Eduqué Mon Amour and Giselle, are beloved classics within Quebec’s vibrant punk culture. Cafeine rapidly enjoyed critical acclaim, embraced by Quebec mainstream media and the French underground alike. Fluent in both English and French, and refusing to identify with a single genre or scene, Cafeine is aware that “trendy is the stage before tacky.” He likens his approach to songwriting to an accomplished chef who favors using several varied ingredients:

“I really want to push my musical boundaries, explore a wider spectrum, and return to what I love about writing and recording. We often try to define music into styles and categories. My music has been described as garage, glam, punk, and pop. Whatever. I always found it a bit simplistic. I am a musician first and foremost.”

Flirting between musical sentiments and real-life love stories, the songs on New Love reflect Cafeine’s personal journey of heartbreak, forgiveness, disappointment, defiance and unexpected satisfaction. They chronicle this voyage, one in which the rocker plunges without restraint, carried along by sharp punk-stringed guitar riffs and edgy keyboard melodies.

Cafeine is an infectiously positive and optimistic soul. According to Cafeine, New Love was written as an enthusiastic response to the question faced by anyone who has encountered heartbreak: Are you tough enough to get through this?

As evidenced by the first taste of his “Love Disease (Christmas in New York),” Cafeine’s songs on New Love shout out a resounding “yes.”
