Mid-March US Recital Tour, UK Recital Debut, and Role Debut with Glyndebourne All Part of Irish Mezzo-Soprano Tara Erraught’s Spring 2014

 

Mid-March US Recital Tour,

    

 

New York, NY – The first half of 2014 is full of debuts for Irish mezzo-soprano Tara Erraught. Following her successful role debut as Sesto in the Bayerische Staatsoper’s La Clemenza di Tito (“Tara Erraught sings the castrato role of Sesto with a beautifully formed mezzo-soprano voice; she, too, has a big aria, ‘Parto, parto,’ …and it is the high point of Act 1.” –The New York Times), mezzo-soprano Tara Erraught returns to the United States in March for her second recital tour in as many years, offering works by Haydn, Brahms, Wolf, Respighi and more. Accompanying her will be one of Ireland’s finest pianists, Dearbhla Collins. All four cities on the tour feature series debuts: Los Angeles’s The Broad Stage, Ann Arbor’s University Musical Society Series, Georgia’s Spivy Hall Concert Series in Morrow, and the Savannah Music Festival.

 Ms. Erraught also makes her UK recital debut this April at London’s Wigmore Hall, singing works by Brahms, Wolf, and Haydn, as well as six Irish Folk Songs arranged by Britten. Last spring, following her recital debut with the Vancouver Recital Society in Canada, The Vancouver Sun acclaimed, “Vancouver audiences have heard a true rising star ….”

 

Ms. Erraught then returns to Glyndebourne in May to make her role debut as Octavian in Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier (opening May 17; final performance July 3).

Additional announced summer performances include a concert performance featuring the Trio from Der Rosenkavalier in Munich with the Bayerische Staatsoper in June, and in July, a second set of performances of La Clemenza di Tito at the Munchner Opernfestspiele 2014.

 

Fall 2013 performance highlights included creating the role of Kitty in the world premiere of Iain Bell’s A Harlot’s Progress at Theater an der Wien to acclaim. She also reprised her role as Hansel in Humperdinck’s Hansel und Gretel with Bayerische Staatsoper. Future performances include Ms. Erraught’s debut at the BBC Proms, and her stage debut at the Washington National Opera.

 

A native of Dundalk, Ireland, Ms. Erraught graduated from the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin and has been a member of the opera studio at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich since 2008. Over the past few seasons, Ms. Erraught’s international stature has continued to grow: she first captured the attention of the international opera public in February 2011 when she sang the title role of a new production of Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortileges.That same month, she jumped in for an ailing colleague on five-days notice to perform Romeo in a new production of Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi. The latter catapulted Ms. Erraught to world-wide acclaim.

 

Among her awards and honors is the prestigious 2013 Pro meritis scientiae et litterarum, awarded to her in 2013 by the Bavarian Government in recognition for outstanding contribution to the arts. Additional awards include the 2010 National Concert Hall’s Rising Star Award in Dublin; First Prize in the 2008 Jakub Pustina International Singing Competition in the Czech Republic along with the Zdar nad Sazavou Audience Prize, and both the Houston Grand Opera Prize and the Washington National Opera Prize at the 2008 International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna. She has also won the Dermott Troy Award for the Best Irish Singer.
