MICHAEL STEFIUK APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF CONCERT ACTIVITIES AT THE EASTMAN SCHOOL OF MUSIC

Michael Stefiuk, an experienced leader in the orchestral field, has been named the Director of Concert Activities at the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester. He will direct all aspects of the Eastman School of Music’s Concert Office and will provide artistic and programming direction for our various presentation series (e.g. Eastman Presents, Ranlet, Kilbourn, Barbara B. Smith World Music and Fernando Laires Piano.)  Additionally, Michael will manage the operations of the school’s performance venues, the Eastman Theater Box Office, Theatre Shop, and concessions.

After receiving a bachelor degree in music from Northern Illinois University and a Master of Music from New England Conservatory, Stefiuk worked in senior-level leadership roles with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Green Bay, Symphony, the Elgin (Illinois) Symphony and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. His experience also includes work in the classical recording industry with NAXOS Records of America, WNIU-FM classical radio, and as a professional musician.

Mike has solid leadership, expertise and a passion for excellence. I am thrilled that Mike is joining the Eastman School of Music.” said Michele Gibson, Senior Associate Dean at Eastman School of Music.

As the Executive Director of the Green Bay Symphony, Stefiuk developed and secured funding for “Music for a Great City”, a partnership of with the Green Bay Public Schools and the Green Bay Packers. Additionally, he established a partnership with Bellin Health’s Expressive Arts in Medicine to connect people with the healing power of music. During Michael’s tenure with the Columbus Symphony he produced their entire outdoor summer season as well as programmed multi-faceted festivals with Ohio State University.

It is truly an honor and a privilege to be joining the esteemed faculty and staff at the Eastman School of Music. One of my greatest passions is connecting people with the power of live music and I look forward to many opportunities to do this with Eastman and the greater Rochester communities,” said Stefiuk. He will be joining the Eastman School of Music on August 1.

The Eastman School of Music was founded in 1921 by industrialist and philanthropist George Eastman (1854-1932), founder of Eastman Kodak Company. It was the first professional school of the University of Rochester. Mr. Eastman’s dream was that his school would provide a broad education in the liberal arts as well as superb musical training. The current dean is Jamal Rossi, appointed in 2014.

About 900 students are enrolled in Eastman’s Collegiate Division– about 500 undergraduate and 400 graduate students. Students come from almost every state, and approximately 20 per cent are from other countries. They are guided by more than 95 full-time faculty members. Seven Pulitzer Prize winners have taught at Eastman, as have several Grammy Award winners. Each year, Eastman’s students, faculty members, and guest artists present more than 700 concerts to the Rochester community.
