ZARKANA THEATER

ZARKANA BY CIRQUE DU SOLEIL

Zarkana by Cirque du Soleil is a spirited journey through an abandoned theater where an extraordinary circus comes back to life. Populated by a motley collection of off-the-wall characters and incomparable acrobats, Zarkana is a visual vortex set in a twisted acrobatic fantasy universe where, little by little, chaos and craziness give way to a true celebration.

An international cast of 70 world class acrobats, aerialists, jugglers, high wire and trapeze artists perform five nights a week at the Zarkana Theater. Zarkana’s newest act, the Atherton Twins, hails from the UK and most recently performed in Cirque du Soleil’s IRIS. Additional appearances include a performance on the 84th Academy Awards which was televised in more than 225 countries worldwide. The Atherton Twins debuted in Zarkana in February 2014.

The two best junior middleweights in the world will meet to decide 154-pound supremacy Saturday, July 12 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez (43-1-1, 31 KOs) will square off against WBA Junior Middleweight World Champion Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara (19-1-2, 12 KOs) in a 12-round bout. A former world champion and only 23 years old, Canelo has captivated fans worldwide with his exciting fighting style and charisma in and out of the ring. In his most recent bout, Lara won a 12-round unanimous decision over Austin Trout last December and now the 31-year-old will attempt to defeat Canelo. WILLIAM SHATNER’S “SHATNER’S WORLD: WE JUST LIVE IN IT.”

Television and movie legend William Shatner will bring his one-man show “Shatner’s World: We Just Live In It” to the Hollywood Theatre for a three-night engagement June 19 – 21. Known as much for his unique persona as for his expansive body of work on television and the big screen, Shatner will take his audiences on a 90-minute voyage through his life and career, from Shakespearean stage actor to internationally known icon and personality.

The 19th edition of the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) long-running reality series “The Ultimate Fighter” will culminate in a live finale at the Mandalay Bay Events Center Sunday, July 6. In the main event, the season’s coaches, former lightweight champions Frankie Edgar (15-4-1, fighting out of Toms River, N.J.) and BJ Penn (16-9-2, fighting out of Hilo, Hawaii), will face each other in the Octagon for the third time—a meeting which marks their first in the featherweight division.
