MAYOR GARCETTI ANNOUNCES STREAMLINING OF CONSTRUCTION PERMIT PROCESSES

LOS ANGELES–Mayor Eric Garcetti today announced that certain permit checks once conducted by two separate city departments will be consolidated within one, saving time and money.

Beginning April 28th, two plan checks previously conducted separately by the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) and the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) will be conducted by LADBS only for qualifying projects.

For qualifying applicants, this will provide a single point of contact for plan checks, eliminate a trip downtown and save $600 in fees per project. Last year, 1,200 projects would have qualified.

“Part of my Back to Basics Agenda is to make City Hall faster and more efficient to save money for taxpayers and businesses,” said Mayor Garcetti. “This is a common sense change that will help us attract investment and create jobs.”

This is a first step to implement a package of development permit streamlining recommendations approved by the City Council on April 2. The package was developed by the offices of the Mayor, City Administrative Officer (CAO), and Chief Legislative Analyst (CLA) in collaboration with affected departments and the Matrix Consulting Group.
