Lukas Graham kicked off their sold out U.S. headline tour last night at The Troubadour in Los Angeles, following a packed week at SXSW that had People naming them an “Artist You Should Know,” and Esquire declaring they are “perhaps already a Best New Artist Grammy frontrunner.” Further early praise comes from the New York Times, who lauds Lukas Graham’s “neatly turned songs that merge the lilt of pop-soul with the quick cadences of hip-hop,” while USA Today says “Laid-back and soulful, songs effortlessly blend elements of hip hop and folk while relaying oftentimes relatable experiences.”
Listen to “7 Years” on Spotify:
Growing up in Christiania – an autonomous artists’ enclave in the center of Copenhagen with no cars, streetlights, or police, and few personal luxuries – shaped singer Lukas Graham Forchammer’s dynamic sound. “Our scope away from home was so huge,” he says. “Instead of making up a pretty little love story about some girl I like, I end up singing about my boys in jail and how I feel. It’s easier for me to be honest about who I am than to start making up some fairytale.” For the debut album, that honesty is centered largely on remembering his father, as Lukas turned to his writing as a means to cope with and understand that loss. The result is 11 tracks filled with emotion, powered by Lukas’ soulful vocals and pop melodies but with his engaging lyrics always at the core.
Lukas Graham is out everywhere Friday, April 1 and available for preorder now, with four instant grat tracks already available – hit single “7 Years,” “Mama Said,” the heartfelt tribute to his father, “You’re Not There,” and “Drunk In The Morning.”
From his early Scandinavian success to what has rapidly become widespread acclaim across the globe, Lukas is always alongside his “boys” in the band-Mark “Lovestick” Falgren (drums), Magnús “Magnúm” Larsson (bass), and Kasper Daugaard (keyboard)-childhood friends who play an integral role in both the musical process and the live performance. See below for a full list of U.S. dates to see Lukas Graham and his band live this spring.
