David Houle is an award-winning futurist and strategist who has launched successful brands and is an in-demand speaker about the future. He writes the popular futurist blog “Evolution Shift” and is the author of four books, including “Entering the Shift Age.”

 

(Sarasota-Manatee, Florida) Lifelong Learning Academy (LLA) presents acclaimed futurist, global trendspotter and author David Houle in a lively discussion about future trends, global topics and his most recent book, Entering the Shift Age. The talk, part of the Lifelong Learning Academy’s “Lecture Series,” is Wednesday, April 2, in Selby Auditorium at the University of South Florida, Sarasota-Manatee, 8350 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. A pre-lecture book signing is 4-5 p.m. The lecture is 5-6:30 p.m., followed by a post-lecture book signing, 6:30-7 p.m. General admission is $10; LLA members are admitted free. Houle spent more than 20 years in media and entertainment. He has worked at NBC, CBS and was part of the senior executive team that launched MTV, Nickelodeon, VH1 and CNN Headline News. He helped create television series on A&E (including Investigative Reports and American Justice), introducing single-subject documentaries and legal programming to prime time before those programming concepts became commonplace. Both series were award-winning and ran for more than 10 years. Houle has won a number of awards, including two Emmys as co-executive producer for the nationally syndicated children’s program, Energy Express. He won the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award and the Heartland Award for Hank Aaron: Chasing the Dream and was nominated for an Academy Award.

In the past four years, Houle has advised more than 2,000 CEOs, entrepreneurs and business owners, earning him the moniker, “the CEOs’ Futurist.” He is the recipient of the “Speaker of the Year” award from Vistage International, the leading organization of CEOs in the world. His influential first book, The Shift Age, was published in 2008. His second book, Shift Ed: A Call to Action for Transforming K-12 Education, written with Jeff Cobb, was published in 2011. The New Health Age: the Future of Health Care in America, co-authored with Jonathan Fleece, was published 2012 and became a bestseller on Amazon. Houle’s latest book, Entering the Shift Age, was published in 2013 and is also an Amazon bestseller. Lifelong Learning Academy offers four course terms per year on the USFSM campus, at 8350 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. The 2014 spring term runs March 10-May 1.Each course lasts six to eight weeks; most classes meet for one hour and 20 minutes each week. Short Series meet 1-4 sessions, meeting weekly.
