Legendary Violinist Joseph Silverstein and Friends Perform at The Boston Conservatory May 2

 

(BOSTON—April 24, 2014) On May 2, legendary violinist Joseph Silverstein will perform one of the great chamber music masterpieces in Joseph Silverstein and Friends, the concluding concert of The Boston Conservatory’s 2013-2014 String Masters Series. Silverstein, who is also a member of the Conservatory’s string faculty, will perform Antonín Dvořák’s Quintet, op. 77, No. 2 with fellow faculty members and Conservatory students.

 

Silverstein was the music director of the Utah Symphony from 1983 to 1998 and has been a guest conductor and violin soloist with orchestras in the U.S., Asia, Israel and Europe. He has recorded for the RCA, Deutsche Grammophon, CBS, Nonesuch, New World Records, Telarc and Pro Arte labels; his Telarc recording of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons received a Grammy nomination.

 

In addition, Silverstein served as the concertmaster of the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1962 to 1984, after seven years of performing with the symphony, and was also the assistant conductor from 1971 to 1984. During his Boston tenure, he conducted the orchestra on more than 100 occasions.

 

Joseph Silverstein and Friends takes place at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 2 at Seully Hall, which is located on the fourth floor of 8 The Fenway.
