Los Angeles, CA – March 4, 2015 – Detroit experimental pop trio Jamaican Queens have released a new music video for their latest single “Bored + Lazy.” The strikingly visual cinematic score to the song exudes a dark and evocative cocktail of melancholy, decadence, and classic film noir. The video is now streaming online: https://vimeo.com/120222861. Recently, the band released the Bored + Lazy EP via the bands own Freakish Pleasures label and tastemaker label Mishka NYC. The digital EP includes “Bored + Lazy,” alongside the studio version of the new track “Joe,” and three feature remixes by legendary techno music pioneer Kevin Saunderson, avant-garde Detroit house producer Coyote Clean Up, and hip-hop producer/DJ Nick Speed featuring Dopehead from Bruiser Brigade. Jamaican Queens just wrapped their winter US tour and are heading to SXSW this March, before a month long European tour.

A dark and haunting oeuvre, “Bored + Lazy” features an infectious chorus that lingers with the listener long after it’s been played, described as if “Ian Curtis were to be the cure to Destiny’s Child’s depression.”  The resulting video is a magically surrealistic  ‘night in the life’ of two protagonists- exuding calculation and impetuousness at once.

“The conception of this video happened in a small bar in Paris, after we played the director (Andrew Miller) a few rough versions of our new songs,” singer Ryan Spencer explained. “I believe his words were ‘I got dibs on the vid for that Bored + Lazy piece.’ We batted around a few ideas, and from there, he and Jamin took it and ran- organizing a group of actors, extras, and hands comprised of some our favorite people/ artists in the city.”

Hailing from Detroit, Jamaican Queens are songwriter and producer Ryan Spencer, producer and engineer Adam Pressley, and percussionist Ryan Clancy. Together the trio home record and produce a raw and abrasive form of pop music focused on dark themes Their sound incorporates electronic, electric, and acoustic instrumentation with each song arranged according to its specific needs, while always existing within the verse/chorus structure of “pop music.”

The band released their debut full-length album Wormfood in 2013 to critical acclaim. Spencer draws inspiration for his lyrics from his mercurial relationship with modern love, the undeniably violent tendencies of the human spirit, and his sometimes-debilitating bouts with anxiety and depression. Combined with the eccentric personalities of Pressley and Clancy the result is an encyclopedic appreciation of everything pop, rendering their songs challengingly unique and wistfully familiar.
