ISO announces Academy Award-winning actor F. Murray Abraham will narrate Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s Tale in concerts May 15-16

ISO adds a special holiday event – “Songs of Inspiration” with Sandi Patty and the ISO Nov. 25

INDIANAPOLIS – Single tickets for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s 2014-2015 season at the Hilbert Circle Theatre will go on sale to the general public on Monday, August 11 at 10 a.m., and for the first week, the ISO will waive ticket fees for every purchase.

Season Overview

In Music Director Krzysztof Urbański’s fourth season, the ISO’s Lilly Classical Series is highlighted by powerful, large-scale symphonic works by Brahms, Beethoven and Mahler; the return of former ISO Music Directors Raymond Leppard and Mario Venzago; and the multi-week festival, “Fantasy, Fate and War,” featuring programs highlighting the music and culture of Russia, including the ISO’s first-ever performance of Shostakovich’s monumental Seventh Symphony (“Leningrad”).

Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly has created a Printing Partners Pops Series season filled with musical tributes to The Beatles, composer Marvin Hamlisch, the signature songs from Broadway’s leading men and the sounds of Simon & Garfunkel. In addition, singer Megan Hilty makes her ISO debut, instrumentalist Kenny G is back to perform with the ISO in the spring, and Valentine’s Day weekend features the award-winning film Casablanca with the ISO performing the score underneath the big screen.

NEW!  F. Murray Abraham to Narrate A Soldier’s Tale

Academy Award-winning actor F. Murray Abraham will be joining the ISO to narrate Kurt Vonnegut’s libretto to Igor Stravinsky’s work, The Soldier’s Tale, in Lilly Classical Series concerts May 15 and 16. The ISO will open these performances with Sinfonia in D (Veneziana) by Antonio Salieri – the composer portrayed by Mr. Abraham in the film Amadeus.

NEW! Sandi Patty Concert Special on Nov. 25

Led by Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly, the ISO is adding a one-night-only performance of vocalist Sandi Patty with Orchestra on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 7:30 p.m. Titled “Songs of Inspiration,” the concert will include many timeless standards, traditional hymns and inspirational songs of the season. Tickets start at $25.

Other special events in the 2014-2015 season include Psycho: Film + Orchestra on Nov. 1; Glee star Matthew Morrison with the ISO on Nov. 22; Classical Christmas with ISO Conductor Laureate Raymond Leppard on Dec. 13 at the Schrott Center for the Arts; and award-winning vocalist Audra McDonald on Dec. 15.

Megan Hilty and Leading Men of Broadway Concert Date Changes

Concert dates for Megan Hilty with the ISO and the Leading Men of Broadway concerts have swapped.  Megan Hilty will be performing with the ISO on March 6while the Leading Men of Broadway concerts will be held Nov. 7-8.  This change has been made to accommodate Megan Hilty’s maternity leave in the fall/winter.

Stella Artois Happy Hour at the Symphony – Dates Announced

Created and directed by ISO artists-in-residence Time for Three, the 14-15 Stella Artois Happy Hour at the Symphony concert series is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 23, Jan. 15, Apr. 30 andMay 28.  Repertoire and restaurant information will be announced later in the season.  Tickets to all Happy Hour concerts are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.
