Innovative pop trio, Dessert has unveiled their latest music video for “Checkmate” today via W MagazinePRESS HERE to experience. The sedated yet atmospheric visual was directed by female creator Danica Arias Kleinknecht and effortlessly showcases Dessert‘s strong grasp on visuals, with dusty cinematography that uses cut away camera shots of youths in Halloween costumes to juxtapose vulnerability in a surrealist setting.
Dessert explains, “‘Checkmate’ is the final music piece of ‘Songs for Children.” We like the risk of forcing the audience to either be entranced or repulsed by an unconventional hero. We like using the idea of darkness and light as a double edged sword to communicate about honesty in pop music. There’s a magic to truth that polarizes people, and we’re not afraid of that. We want to thank all of our loved ones for making this come to life. Thank you & new Dessert coming soon.”
Dessert have been quickly making waves with their recent singles and forward thinking visuals. They’ve reinvented the physical release with their custom made, 7 ½ pound custom made bunny candle that includes a USB inside the candle of their debut EP, Songs for Children. In a short span of time, the band has appeared on multiple ‘Best of 2016’ and ‘Essential Music for 2017’ lists. Their contemporary and experimental tracks have been supported by Zane Lowe of Beats 1 as a ‘World Record’ and has caught the attention from esteemed publications such as The FADER, Nowness, i-D, WonderlandMagazine.com, Dazed, Nylon.com, Pigeons & Planes, Noisey, DIY and NME.
