ICE THEATRE OF NEW YORK
HONORS LIVING LEGEND DICK BUTTON WITH
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
October 30, 2015
New York, NY: Ice Theatre of New York (ITNY) is proud to launch its 30th Anniversary Season by bringing together world-class professional skaters, past honorees, and Olympic champions at its 30th Anniversary Benefit Gala on October 30, 2015 in New York City. Co-Chairs for the event include Emmy Award Winner Sarah Kawahara, interior designer Betty Wasserman, former Ice Angel Awardee Clare Sheridan, and original ITNY company member Kenny Moir.
Moira North, ITNY Founder/ Artistic Director, is delighted to honor the late, great Toller Cranston. “Toller dared to be different, to push the boundaries of form. He had talked about his goal in skating being to create what he called Theatre on Ice, or skating as a form of dance expression and this has been an inspiration to Ice Theatre of New York’s mission,” said Moira North.
In addition ITNY is proud to announce the introduction of two new awards:
Lifetime Achievement Award – ITNY’s first Lifetime Achievement Award recipient will be two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, five-time World Champion, Emmy Award winning skating commentator, skating pioneer & living legend Dick Button for his considerable contributions and achievements in the world of figure skating.
Will Sears Award – awarded to a young skater who has shown exceptional daring and persistence in pursuit of his/her passion, consistent with the spirit of the late Will Sears. The inaugural recipient is an Ice Theatre performing apprentice and current pair skating competitor, Carlie Quesada.
Annually ITNY recognizes people whom donate both their time and talents to help non-profits thrive. This years Ice Angels are author Edward Z. Epstein and graphic artist Scott H. Schwartz.
ITNY has changed the face of figure skating by creating works that integrate the sensibilities of contemporary dance, music and art. In addition to performing, ITNY reaches out to the next generation of skaters through its education, community outreach and training programs.

Festivities commence with a cocktail/silent auction at 7PM followed by a dinner/dance reception, which includes our awards ceremony and a video retrospective of the past 30 years highlighting collaborations with dance choreographers, musicians and other artists.
All of the evening’s proceeds will help support ITNY’s New Works and Young Artists Series, an outreach program for at-risk public school children as well as our 2015-2016 season’s artistic programming. Your efforts nourish the ongoing development of artistic skating.
ITNY is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council. ITNY receives funding from the Bloomberg Philanthropies, Dance/NYC, the Lisa McGraw Figure Skating Foundation, the Pioneer Fund, the Will Sears Fund and its generous private patrons.
Founded in 1984 by Moira North, ITNY (ITNY) has changed the face of figure skating by creating works that integrate the sensibilities of movement, music and art. Its mission is to elevate dance on ice as a performance art. Through its performances in both traditional and site-specific venues, ITNY presents ice dance that opens one’s eyes to seeing skating in unexpected ways. ITNY was the first ice dance company to receive dance program funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. In addition to building and performing works of artistic merit, ITNY also reaches out to the next generation of skaters and audiences through education, community outreach and training programs.
