SARASOTA COUNTY – Hundreds of volunteers turned out last weekend to take part in the Great American Cleanup, an annual effort to give back to the community by helping to create a safer, cleaner and more beautiful environment.

According to Keep Sarasota County Beautiful Coordinator Wendi Crisp, nearly 500 volunteers gave more than 1,000 hours of service at 27 locations throughout Sarasota County. Volunteers have until April 6 to report their results.
“We are extremely pleased with the turnout for this year’s Great American Cleanup,” Crisp said. “Our group of volunteers continue to amaze us with what they find during the cleanups and how much trash and recyclable materials they collect.”
The Great American Cleanup is the nation’s largest organized cleanup, beautification and community improvement program, engaging more than four million volunteers in 20,000-plus communities nationwide.
Sarasota County has taken part in the effort for more than 20 years, and looks forward to continuing a successful partnership with the community.
“Year after year, we consistently see neighbors, youth and adult civic associations, schools, churches and individuals coming together during the Great American Cleanup to help collect and dispose of litter along the roadways, in the parks and on the beaches of Sarasota County,” Crisp added.
